Applications Engineer

Entry Level Position

Reporting to: Director of Applications and Service        

Background: The Applications Engineer is the customer-facing engineer for demos, system buyoffs, and system/ process development. Customer interactions include pre-sales support, machine configuration during demos and buyoffs, and post-sales support.

Responsibilities

  • Pre-sales support to ensure the right machine and configuration for the application
  • Tooling design during demos including pickup tools, fixturing, and epoxy and dispense needle selection.
  • Demos at tradeshows
  • Conducting system demos either with the customer present or by building parts and returning finished parts with a detailed report.
  • New machine setup and calibration before customer buyoffs
  • Execution of customer buyoffs including installation and training
  • Post-sales process and system support
  • Formal training courses
  • Contributions to the system manuals and other forms of documentation
  • Collection and feedback of opportunities for hardware and software improvements

Requirements

  • Successful candidates should have 1-3 years of process experience in the field of microelectronics.
  • Candidates should be able to perform in a successful private company environment where each contributor takes on new tasks regularly.
  • Applications engineers work regularly with all departments in the organization.
  • Travel domestically and internationally is expected.

Controls Engineer

Junior Level Position

Reporting to: Senior Controls Engineer

Background: This is an important role in a growing and developing Engineering Team.

Responsibilities

  • Motion control including tuning, programming and debugging of servos.
  • Hands-on troubleshooting of electro-mechanical subsystems such as linear and rotary stages, encoders, limit switches, etc.
  • Design and develop code for embedded motion controllers based on stated requirements and specifications.
  • Review, redesign and upgrade legacy motion control code as needed.
  • Troubleshoot issues with existing installed systems in the field.
  • Collaborate with software, electrical, mechanical and application engineering teams for new product and feature development.
  • Provide production and field service support by directly interacting with team members.
  • Write technical documentation, procedures and application notes that meet the quality standards for manufacturing and service as required.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Mechatronics or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of electrical engineering, system control theories and principles.
  • Debugging and troubleshooting motion control systems.
  • Basic computer programming skills: familiar with C/C++.
  • Working experience with commercial off-the-shelf motion and PLC controllers, like Delta Tau UMAC/Power PMAC, Rockwell Automation, Omron is a plus.

Applications Engineer
West Coast

Junior Level Position

Reporting to: Director of Applications and Service

Background: The West Coast Applications Engineer is the customer facing engineer for demos and system/ process development.  Customer interactions include pre-sales support and post-sales support.  The primary task of this engineer will be support at a customer site in San Jose CA.  Travel will be required to other MRSI customers – most of these on the West coast.
