MRSI Systems Presented at Massachusetts Integrated Photonics Manufacturing Supply Chain Meeting held at MIT in Conjunction with 2016 AIM Photonics / MIT Microphotonics Center Fall Meeting

On November 2, 2016, MRSI Systems participated in the Commercial and Business Opportunities panel discussions at Massachusetts (MA) Integrated Photonics Manufacturing Supply Chain Meeting at MIT. The panel consisted of Analog Devices, MACOM and MRSI Systems, and local MA companies involved in the integrated photonics field. The meeting was part of a series of initiatives under the recently established American Institute of Manufacturing Photonics (AIM Photonics).

Dr. Yi Qian, VP of Product Management, MRSI Systems was invited to present MRSI’s vision of the future of high precision equipment for integrated photonics, given the demand for high volume manufacturing. Dr. Qian highlighted MRSI’s experience and engagement in the photonics manufacturing industry and emphasized the importance of education and training. Dr. Qian and the other panelists from Analog Devices and MACOM also had follow-up discussions with other institutes and companies who were present, concerning how to collaborate and strengthen local ecosystems of integrated photonics in MA.

“MRSI Systems has been involved with the AIM Photonics Center and the MIT-led AIM Photonics Academy since its inception. It is a great opportunity for MRSI to join Analog Devices, MACOM, MIT, and other MA local companies and communities in this forum,” said Dr. Qian. “As a leading provider of high speed and high precision die bonding solutions to photonics for the past twenty five years, MRSI is uniquely positioned in supporting the future silicon photonics industry, both locally and internationally. We are so close to MIT and there will be a lot of opportunities for us to contribute to the workforce education and training at AIM Photonics Academy led by MIT.”

This first meeting was a showcase demonstrating that Massachusetts has strong capability in integrated photonics today, and that community colleges, manufacturing extension partnership (MEP) programs, and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) can provide robust support to achieve a new I-90 technology corridor in integrated silicon photonics, encompassing Boston, Worcester, Springfield, Pittsfield, Albany and Rochester.
